Spy optics NZ: Beyond the Frame Movie
Spy Optics New Zealand’s new movie Beyond the Frame premieres tomorrow. It’s been a while since we’ve seen a corporate sponsored movie focusing solely on kiwi snowboarders and I wanted to get the inside scoop from Team Manager Grady Johnny on what we can expect to see.
Beyond the Frame is dedicated to Spy Optics NZ team rider Zak Baikie and features Cam Breton, Angus Gray, Claudia Anderson, Ronan Thompson, Oscar Georgalli, Timothy Black Herbert, Morgan Schofield, Zak Baikie and Tom Galliven. To learn more about the behind the scenes of the movie, check out the blog here.
NP: “Hey thanks for the catch up Grady, what’s the focus with Beyond the Frame?”
GJ: “That’s actually a broad question that I feel I could write pages about. The overall focus of the film is to bring attention and highlight New Zealand snowboarding in a way that’s relatable to the everyday snowboarder. A lot of content in New Zealand features overseas riders and it was important to us to highlight the riders that you see every day–the actual people in your community and on your local mountains.”
NP: “When and where does the movie premiere?”
GJ: “The first premiere night is in Wanaka on Friday September 5th at Rove Bar and the second premiere night is in Queenstown on Saturday September 6th at Smith’s Craft Brew House. Doors open at 7pm.”
NP: “When will it be available online for viewers who can’t make the premiere?”
GJ: “Viewers can expect to see the movie online via Spy Optics New Zealand website soon and there will be an announcement made on our social media page when it's available online. If you can make it to one of the premieres, we’d love to see you there.”
NP: “Any good spoilers you’re willing to share?”
GJ: “All of the blogs on the website have been pretty open and honest with what's been happening behind the scenes. We have had 3 filming weekends over the past 2 seasons. Spy Optics NZ wanted the film to echo some of the movies we saw when we were younger where snowboarding was about having a good time and less about the tricks. This movie isn’t about technical snowboarding–its about passion.”
